Cheltenham Ladies Day
Saw Eunice from Gloucester at Worcester today. Glos still looking for members to help with buckets to collect money for ACWW on 12th March at Cheltenham Ladies Day. You will be needed for probably several(1 1/2 - 2 ) hour stints (whatever the weather). During the gaps you can see the horses etc!! Take your husband, friends, whatever, - basic knowledge of ACWW useful but not essential. Get in touch with ACWW HQ if you can help.

ACWW and FairTrade Day in Cornwall
Roma and I went to Chy Noweth Cornwall HQ and took part in the day. Rachael, ACWW Rep in Cornwall had arranged everything - thanks for the lunch Rachael. I spoke am and Roma after lunch. The ladies loved Therese's poem about Finland - it is on the site a long way down!!! - every WI wanted a copy to take with them. We sold 2 history books and tried out Sue's collection idea which was relatively successful!!! A long way tho' over 3+ hours driving!!!

Latest WI Life
The date for collection of £22,500 for ACWW (Projects and Pennies for Friendship) from 2005 to Oct 2008 has been corrected albeit attached to a letter about a Somerset member who knitted over 200 Xmas puds (stuffed with chocolate) and sold them to make money to send to ACWW after hearing Ursula's story at Wincanton.

Devon's International Day
Went to this event on Wednesday past - luckily a pleasant day and good driving conditions. Longdown Hall was easy to find and I was lucky enough to be adopted by Halberton WI and spent a very pleasant day sitting with them. Our first speaker was a priest who had a wonderful collection of Native American beadwork and artwork - he had been fascinated by Indians since he was a child. Very few of us had considered that beadwork only started after beads had been brought to American by Europeans. The very first pieces contained Venetian glass and turn of the the 20th century had Czechslovakian glass - it was fascinating!!
We broke early for lunch due to a faulty projector and congratulations to the Catering Committee who were extremely efficient and had prepared soup, sandwiches and sweets. An excellent choice of soups and sweets we were spoilt. Margaret Mackay started the afternoon and gave an interesting talk as Chair of Projects and members were able to see slides on her laptop afterwards. She was followed by a lady (I can't remember her name) who actually lived close by and had worked for the UN for many years. She gave us an insight into her workload and the very difficult war-torn areas she had visited as head of the UN civilian section of the Peace Corps. She had worked in some very scary places including Rwanda, Iraq, Cyprus to name but a few. She was so competent within her job that it was quite awesome listening to her!!!
An excellent day Mary many thanks to you for organising it and for finding me a place to attend. It was good to see Roma and other members wearing their ACWW SW sweatshirts!!!

We've had quite a lot of snow today - not as much as in the east BUT enough to cancel a meeting tonight. This will give me a bit of time to look at the penfriends emails!!!
